Jim McNulty to Receive the 2017 Iowa Taxpayers Association’s Weindruch Award

DES MOINES, IA — (December 7, 2017) The Iowa Taxpayers Association, the state's leading nonpartisan business tax policy resource since 1935, in conjunction with the family of Linda S. Weindruch is pleased to announce that Jim McNulty, retired, Iowa Department of Revenue, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2017 Linda S. Weindruch Award. This prestigious award will be presented to McNulty at the ITA Annual Meeting & Tax Symposium luncheon on December 7, 2017, at The Meadows Events & Conference Center in Altoona, Iowa.

The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding accomplishments and contributions in promoting and protecting the principles and policies of fair business taxation. The Iowa Taxpayers Association offers this award in memory and in recognition of Linda S. Weindruch, who passed away after a long battle with multiple sclerosis in October 2004. Linda was an active, longtime member of the Iowa Taxpayers Association. She was elected to serve on its board of directors in 1994 and served 10 active years. She was a tremendous friend of Iowa business and worked diligently to develop and shape legislative and regulatory policy that supported sound taxation principles.

“Jim stands out as a true public servant who consistently cared about doing the right thing for both the state and the taxpayers. He is a good listener, thinker and problem solver – a great combination of character traits highly appreciated by the taxpayers of Iowa,” said Steve Evans, MidAmerican Energy/Berkshire Hathaway Energy, Linda S. Weindruch Award Committee Chair.

McNulty was born and raised in Jefferson, Iowa. After graduating from the University of Iowa in 1980, he began his career with the Iowa Department of Revenue. From 1980-2000, he worked primarily in the corporation income tax area, including overseeing the Department's corporation income tax field audit program, managing the corporation income tax unit based in Des Moines, and resolution of Iowa corporation income tax protests. From 2001 until his retirement in 2014, he worked in the Policy Section where his responsibilities expanded to all income taxes administered by the Department. This included working with legislators, drafting administrative rules, coordinating with other state agencies on tax credit programs, and managing the Department's protest resolution area. Jim also gave numerous presentations to accountants and lawyers across the state on income tax issues.

Jim, with his wife Barbara, reside beneath the blue suburban skies of Norwalk, Iowa. They have two grown sons.
