Senate and House Leaders to Address Business Tax Group

 

DES MOINES, IA — (November 18, 2019) The Iowa Taxpayers Association will hold its 84th Annual Tax Symposium on Thursday, November 21, 2019, and Friday, November 22, 2019, at The Meadows Event & Conference Center in Altoona, Iowa.

On Thursday, November 21, at 9:15 a.m., Debi Durham, director of the Iowa Department of Economic Development, will discuss Iowa's economic development strategy, including focus areas for growth, policy initiatives, programs and industry information.

After lunch on Thursday, at 12:15 p.m., Jeff Angelo, local radio talk show host with WHO Newsradio 1040, will speak about the importance of advocacy, leadership, fairness and a strong moral compass, which were the attributes that epitomized Linda S. Weindruch. Following Jeff’s presentation, ITA will award the Weindruch Award and Scholarship in honor of Linda S. Weindruch. The award will be posthumously given to Michael Sadler, CenturyLink, and the scholarship to Benjamin Nielson, Drake University law student.

At 8:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22, Director Kraig Paulsen and the four new policy directors will provide attendees with a discussion of recent and upcoming developments at the Department as well as other items of interest. At 10:45 a.m., Tom Sands, President/CEO of the Iowa Taxpayers Association, will moderate a legislative panel including Senate Ways and Means Vice Chair Dan Dawson, Senator Joe Bolkom, House Ways and Means Chair Lee Hein and Representative Dave Jacoby. Additional legislators may also be present. They will provide insight on business tax issues facing the Legislature in the coming year.
