WHAT IS THE IOWA TAXPAYERS ASSOCIATION?
The Iowa Taxpayers Association (ITA) is the only statewide organization focused exclusively on promoting a fair, equitable, and competitive tax environment for business. Since 1935, ITA has been at the forefront of nonpartisan business tax policy research, education, and issue advocacy in the state.
WHO BELONGS TO ITA?
ITA represents a broad spectrum of business taxpayers in Iowa --- small and large companies, manufacturers, multi-national corporations, C-corporations, Sub-S corporations, accounting and law firms, other professional associations. In essence, these are the state's leading corporate citizens and organizations that strive for fair and predictable administration of business tax statutes and rules. They work together with the goal of creating in Iowa a positive, competitive environment in which to do business.
WHY IS MEMBERSHIP IN ITA IMPORTANT?
- Governmental Affairs. ITA represents business taxpayers before Iowa's elected and appointed officials. We proactively advocate sound tax policy and legislation, creating a positive atmosphere for companies doing business in the state to grow and prosper. The Association does not have a political action committee nor does it endorse candidates for elected offices. It provides objective, straightforward analysis and commentary on business tax policy issues regardless the source of the inquiry.
- ITA is known for its weekly state government report, the ITA Legislative Bulletin which provides the latest account of state activities relating to business taxation. ITA also publishes an annual legislative report which outlines and reviews business taxation legislation considered by the Iowa General Assembly.
- Regulatory and Compliance Activity. ITA works closely with state regulators and officials with the Iowa Department of Revenue (IDR). Through its objective and non-partisan reputation built over many years, ITA has developed a professional working relationship with the IDR which affords the opportunity to provide input regarding proposed rules and/or compliance procedures. ITA takes the lead in working with the IDR to ensure that administrative actions are equitable to business.
- Research and Information. ITA conducts research and monitors regional and national issues, which may impact member companies as it relates to their Iowa tax status. Where feasible, ITA conducts specific research for member companies regarding issues of particular interest to that company.
- Regular interaction with professional peers on key business tax issues. Not only does the Association have numerous action committees ready to address any important business tax regulatory matter or legislative issue in a timely manner, ITA's Annual Meeting is traditionally recognized as the forum in Iowa for tax and government affairs professionals to meet and interact with national tax experts and policymakers in government.
