Iowa Taxpayers Association Awards the Linda S. Weindruch Award to Harry M. Griger

Inaugural Recipient, Harry M. Griger, presented the Award at ITA Annual Meeting today.

The Linda S. Weindruch award honors commitment to the principles of fair business taxation.

DES MOINES, IA- December 6, 2005 - The Iowa Taxpayers Association presented Harry M. Griger with the inaugural Linda S. Weindruch Award today in Des Moines. 

The Iowa Taxpayers Association offered this annual award in memory and in recognition of Linda S. Weindruch.  Ms. Weindruch was an active, long-time member of the Iowa Taxpayers Association.  She was elected to serve on its Board of Directors in 1994, and served in that capacity for ten years.  "She was a tremendous friend of Iowa business and worked diligently to develop and shape legislative and regulatory policy that supported sound taxation principles," stated Iowa Taxpayers Association Board Immediate Past Chair Steve Evans.  One of her most notable career achievements was her work involving the passage of the Iowa Taxpayers’ Procedural Bill of Rights. 

The inaugural Linda S. Weindruch Award for 2005 was presented to Iowa Special Assistant Attorney General, Harry M. Griger.  Mr. Griger was employed by the Iowa Attorney General's Office for 34 years and has played a major role in key tax litigation and tax legislation throughout his career. 

Harry is widely known and well respected for his knowledge on both United Statesand State constitutional tax matters.  The Iowa Department of Revenue, legislators, and taxpayers would often seek him out to gain the benefit of his expertise on a particular tax matter.  Harry is described by those who nominated him as intelligent, objective, hard-working, thorough, and fair.  Throughout his career he has remained dedicated to solid, constitutional tax policy and has been a respected advocate for fairness under the law, for both the taxpayer and government alike.
