Lisa Connell serves as Deputy General Counsel at the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), following her previous roles with IEDA as Legal Counsel and Compliance Project Manager. Bringing over twelve years of dedicated service to the agency, Lisa has collaborated across teams throughout her tenure to develop, update, and refine a wide variety of programs that support Iowa’s economic growth. 

Lisa contributes an ability to craft legislative language that drives meaningful impact. Her approach to administrative rulemaking is distinguished by a commitment to inclusivity, consistently integrating multiple perspectives to ensure that policies are both effective and equitable. Lisa’s work has not only improved the processes and operations of IEDA but has also contributed to the success of its sister agency, the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA). 

Lisa received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Northern Iowa and her J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law. Colleagues and stakeholders alike value Lisa’s integrity and collaborative spirit.

Charles is a Managing Director in KPMG’s Ignition practice, with over 18 years of experience in tax technology consulting. His expertise spans tax compliance, tax planning, tax provision, tax modeling and analytics, technology implementations, process redesign, and outsourcing/co-sourcing with large multinational entities. Recently, Charles has been at the forefront of enabling companies to implement Generative AI solutions, transforming how tax departments operate and innovate.

Dan is a Managing Director with KPMG LLP in the State and Local Tax group for the Washington National Tax practice. Dan supports engagement teams across the KPMG Tax practice and assists clients with a variety of tax-related income/franchise, financial services, and associated issues.

Debi Durham is a longtime economic and community development professional who serves as director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) and the Iowa Finance Authority (IFA). Durham was named to the position by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds in January 2019. 

Durham was first appointed to lead IEDA in 2011 and has turned the agency into a successful public-private partnership, landed billion-dollar economic development projects for Iowa and worked tirelessly to expand trade and investment opportunities for the state. 

She was appointed to lead IFA in 2019, when Governor Reynolds recognized an opportunity to further bolster Iowa’s communities and economy by bringing together IFA and IEDA. Durham prides herself on building coalitions, supporting new ventures, and strengthening the state’s industries and communities. 

Prior to joining IEDA | IFA, Durham served as president of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce. 

Her several accolades include seven-time recognition as one of the “Most Influential Business Leaders” in the Des Moines Business Record Book of Lists. She has been named the Iowa Association of Business and Industry’s “Manufacturing Champion,” the Technology Association of Iowa’s “Legislative Advocacy Leader,” and the Iowa Restaurant Association’s “Industry Champion.” Durham also has been recognized by the Business Record as a “Woman of Influence” and received the Christian Petersen Design Award from Iowa State University’s College of Design.

Russ is the State Income Tax Manager at John Deere.  He has been with Deere since 2021, and his responsibilities include the management of state income tax compliance, state audit defense, quarterly and annual income tax accounting, and all other miscellaneous state income tax matters.  Prior to joining Deere, he spent 11 years in public accounting and is a certified public accountant.

Jennifer is a Director in the Federal Legislative and Regulatory Service practice at KPMG’s Washington National Tax Office.  She is a graduate of Centre College and Harvard Law School.

Kenneth Kim is a Senior Economist at KPMG LLP where he brings his insight and knowledge to help clients and KPMG leadership assess the constantly evolving economic environment. Ken has more than 20 years of experience conducting macroeconomic research and communicating his findings. Prior to joining KPMG, Ken was an economist with Merrill Lynch and later became a founding member of Stone & McCarthy Research Associates, the first independent economic research service on the Bloomberg terminal. Ken also worked as a U.S. economist at RBC Capital Markets and senior economist at Huawei Technologies USA, where he focused on global growth, interest rates, foreign exchange and formulating risk scenarios.

Jessica is a principal in Trade and Customs with KPMG LLP with extensive experience spanning global trade compliance, supply chain management, and international trade law. She has held senior roles in private industry for a Fortune 500 retailer, consulted for a leading customs and trade law firm, and served as an attorney with the International Trade Administration in Washington, D.C. Jessica actively provides pro bono legal support to asylum candidates and serves on the Board of the American Association of Exporters and Importers.

Her diverse background equips her with deep insight into the strategic and operational challenges faced by multinational companies. Jessica specializes in import and export compliance, trade remedies, duty recoveries, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection operations.

As the leader of KPMG’s Global Trade & Sustainability service offering, Jessica leverages her industry expertise to guide clients through complex regulatory requirements, including U.S. Customs Anti-Forced Labor obligations and IRS considerations under the Inflation Reduction Act. 

Mark Mickelson is the President and Founder of Mickelson & Company, which he established in 2005. A seasoned leader with a distinguished career spanning law, finance, and public service, Mark brings a depth of expertise and strategic vision to his work.

He earned his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). Prior to founding Mickelson & Company, Mark served as a South Dakota state legislator, where he contributed to shaping key policy initiatives.

In addition to leading Mickelson & Company, he serves on the boards of ISG and Bristow VTOL, where he continues to influence corporate governance and strategic growth.

Mary Mosiman was appointed Director of the Iowa Department of Revenue on March 29, 2023 by Governor Kim Reynolds. Previously, Mary was the Department's Deputy Director and Tax Management Division Administrator. 

Mosiman graduated from Hubbard High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business/Accounting from Iowa State University. A certified public accountant, Mosiman’s career also includes having served as Iowa’s Auditor of State from May 2013 through December 2018; Deputy of Elections for the Iowa Secretary of State from January 2011 to May 2013; and Story County Auditor from January 2001 to December 2010.

Nick Scott serves as Vice President at Mickelson and Company, where he leverages his extensive background in real estate, tax, and transfer pricing to deliver strategic financial solutions and drive organizational growth.

Candy is the Vice President of Tax at HNI Corporation.  She has been with HNI since 2007 and has extensive experience in the tax and accounting field. A CPA and MBA, she has a strong background in tax strategy, accounting and compliance. With numerous years of industry and public accounting expertise, Candy brings deep insights and leadership to complex tax matters.

She currently serves as the Vice Chair of Iowa Taxpayer’s Association.

Rick Tollakson has led Hubbell Realty Company and its subsidiaries since 1984, becoming President and CEO in 2004. He oversees a broad portfolio spanning homebuilding, property management, land and multifamily development, construction services, title operations, investor services, and a golf enterprise.

Under his leadership, Hubbell has completed multiple high-impact “Extreme Build” projects, including the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build (2006), “9 Homes for 9 Families in 9 Days” (2009), Camp Sunnyside Cabins (2013), the Ronald McDonald House rebuild (2017), an Easterseals child development center (2021), and two On With Life family homes (2024).

Rick holds a B.S. in Construction Engineering from Iowa State University and an MBA from the University of Iowa. He is a graduate of the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute and Leadership Iowa and previously held his Professional Engineer license.

He is active in organizations such as the Central Iowa Water Trails Advisory Committee, PlanDSM, Big Brothers Big Sisters (Honorary Board), ULI, NAIOP, the National Association of Homebuilders Builder 20 group, and the Greater Des Moines Committee.

Deanna Triplett serves as the Chief Legislative Policy Strategist at the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), where she builds relationships with private and public sector leaders, community organizations, and legislative officials across Iowa. With over five years of experience at IEDA, Deanna has played a pivotal role in advancing business and community development, infrastructure, and revitalization initiatives throughout the state.

Deanna’s leadership has been instrumental in passing monumental tax credit policy and launching innovative programs such as MEGA and BIG, as well as new research and development initiatives. Her expertise in legislative strategy and policy development has helped shape Iowa’s economic landscape, ensuring that both urban and rural communities benefit from forward-thinking economic tools.

A proud graduate of the University of Iowa, Deanna holds both a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from the Tippie College of Business. ROBERT J. TUINSTRA, JR. is the Senior Director – Domestic Tax Operations & Corporate Tax Counsel for Corteva Agriscience in Wilmington, Delaware.  Rob’s team is responsible for Federal & State income tax, state sales & use tax and property tax compliance; Federal audit support and State audit defense and management; as well as Federal & State tax planning, tax policy and other tax project responsibilities for Corteva and its domestic subsidiaries.  

Before Corteva’ s historic spin-off from DowDuPont in June 2019, Rob served as the Director - Domestic Taxes & Corporate Tax Counsel for E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company in Wilmington, Delaware.  Prior to joining DuPont in 2003, Rob worked as a Senior Manager in KPMG LLP's State & Local Tax ("SALT") Practice in Philadelphia.  

Rob holds a B.S. in Accounting from Widener University; a J.D. from Widener University School of Law; and a Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) from Villanova University School of Law.  Rob is a current member of the Bars of both Pennsylvania and Delaware. Rob serves as a Board Member and Officer (Past Chair) for the Council on State Taxation ("COST") and is a member of the Lawyer’s Coordinating committee in addition to serving as a frequent facilitator / moderator.
