2010 WIENDRUCH SCHOLARSHIP - ALYSSA SNYDER

2010 WIENDRUCH SCHOLARSHIP - ALYSSA SNYDER

Alyssa Snyder was noted for earning the highest grade in a large Business Associations class at Drake University in the Spring of 2010.  Former Drake University Law School Dean David Walker, says she “was an engaged, inquisitive, motivated student in the way that I remember Linda Weindruch.”

Walker adds, “What the Iowa Taxpayers Association has done in creating this award is a wonderful thing.  It allows us remember and celebrate Linda and what she meant to us, and it allows us to support an excellent, high-achieving student in the Corporate/Business/Tax area.”

Weindruch was an active, long-time member of the Iowa Taxpayers Association. She was elected to serve on its Board of Directors in 1994, serving ten active years. She was a tremendous friend of Iowa business and worked diligently to develop and shape legislative and regulatory policy that supported sound taxation principles.

As this year’s ITA Weindruch Scholarship winner, Snyder’s accomplishments are many and include Drake Dean’s List Honors, Student Bar Association Representative, Member Sports and Entertainment Law Society.  While attending Drake’s Law School, Snyder works as a law clerk for the law firm Berg, Rouse, Spaulding & Schmidt, P.L.C.  Snyder also has received am Academic Achievement Award for Top Grade in Business Associations.

In honor of Linda S. Weindruch the award winner was nominated by Drake’s David Walker, Dwight D. Opperman Distinguished Professor of Law.  Walker remembers Weindruch well and fondly.  “Linda was motivated, couldn’t be outworked, and was tenacious in questioning and advocating.  She did not suffer fools gladly, as any who knew her will attest.  I had her in several classes.  She never missed class, was always prepared, enjoyed engaging  in discussion, and had a knack for the meat of a case or the language of a statute or regulation.  As Dean I happily and gratefully involved her in the school’s affairs—as a member of our Board of Counselors and also as a member of the Law School Endowment Trust Board—and she was always available and supportive, including a willingness to ask hard questions and push others in good directions. She was a good friend of my wife Sara Walker, a fellow student with her, who started with her at KPMG.  I know that she loved her involvement with the Tax Bar and the ISBA.
